Need experience...

Hello all,

I am interested in doing some varmint hunting.  This is all new to me, but I realize I need to get more shooting experience outside the range.  My problem is I don't know anyone that hunts in Washington and my roommate teters on getting into hunting.  I am sick of waiting for him to pick up the passion.  I just met somebody at work that is in a similar position as I, and I/we are looking for guidance.  Understanding how difficult testing a new hunting partner can be, if anyone can point us in the right direction, or be willing to take us out, I would greatly appreciate it...

well I gotta say if you are gonna take to a new hunting pard, varmint hunting is where to start. your season is not limited, your quarry is readily available, and if you screw it up....move a mile and start over. I like to varmint hunt as a primer for my other shooting sports as shots can be any range and the weather is pertty tough at times here in the east.

I would definately say head east as the dogs are not as prevalant here on the wetside

You make it sound like the lack of a hunting partner is wat is keeping you from hunting.  Who needs a partner.....get out there and start wacking some vermin, I mean varmits.  Having a partner is overrated by those that feel the need to have other people around them.  If oyu are lucky to find that perfect match u then awesome, but for gosh sskes don't let it deter you from hunting.

I like having a hunting partner that is a good match.  Sometimes people get in the way and don't have the same goals I do.  I've found myself bowhunting alone many years and eating thanksgiving in a camp or motel room by myself more than once...

Don't get me wrong, I hunt, but that is during elk season over in Idaho.  Still don't know a whole lot about this state and am looking to learn.  Makes it easier to have a partner when you are fairly new to hunting, and/or trying to learn where to go.

I need to start looking at maps and trying to learn different areas.  Anyone have a good starting point, or advice on calls or other techniques?

Hello Again,

I have a friend down south that owns some property and we are planning a trip to see if we can find any coyotes.  He says he hears them quite a bit, but has only seen a couple.  I am due for a trip to see him anyway, so it will be fun to get out.

I don't have any experience in really hunting yotes, ie calling and such.  What calls would you recommend for a newbie.  I really want to learn how to call these animals.
