Taking my nephew.......
« on: June 01, 2009, 05:29:13 PM »
Both of my nephews just passed their hunters safety and i am going to take the youngest one out with me on a short day of coyote hunting.  This should be interesting because he has never hunted or even been around hunting except for the stories he hears from me and the animals i have in my house.  If we are successful i will for sure post some pics.   :whoo:

In the day that Perygyne was open for does for a pre-16 year old without a special permit, I took my nephew over the mountains for what was supposed to be the last weekend of general Deer season. His dad hunted opening weekend with him and they just didn't get a shot. So, at 4am on a Saturday morning I picked him up. We arrived in Winthop a little after shooting light and hunted hard that day. He took a long shot at a big doe and missed late that afternoon. We were road huntin back to where we'd set up camp and on the top of a bluff we spotted a nice 3pt. He took a 150yd off hand shot and drilled him! (remember, he wasn't quite 16 yet!) The 243 didn't drop him in his tracks, so I told him to hit him again. He did.

Being there when both of my boys have taken their Mule and Whitetail does at 12 and 13 years old, that day with my nephew was an incredible highlight of my life. It's terrible that his dad couldn't make it that weekend. But I feel proud that my brother and sister'n law entrusted me with his safety. Proud that I taught him many things that day. Elated as much as he was with his first harvest.

He's taken more bucks on his own since then. Even a small Blackbear.

Best of luck to you and your nephew. Game or not, I'm sure you'll have a great day.
