"Index matched Lenses" on the VX-III, "finger adjustable ele/win instead of the old coin-slot type, and Multi-Coat 4 on all glass surfaces (rather than just the exterior lenses like the Vari-X III).

The VX-II is very comperable to the old Vari-X III... and the new VX-III is a step above that.
