Recommendations for Car Battery Booster Pack
« on: September 17, 2022, 10:05:36 AM »
I drive an older Subaru that's getting on in years and miles and I'm looking for one of those small battery packs with built-in cables for jump-starting my car battery if it fails when I'm in the backcountry. I'd like to find one that doesn't break the bank. We'll be buying a new vehicle after the first of the year, but I don't anticipate a big gas hog, probably just another 4 cyl rig. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Cliff

Noco makes a nice compact one that will fit in your glove box. Reasonably priced depending on how many amps you need for under 100 dollars.

I own three of these, they will start any vehicle I have.

Thank you for your suggestion. For a smaller car like my Subaru Impreza, do you think this 10amp NOCO battery charger would be a good one for me? This is something I could connect if my battery is dead and get my car started, correct? There is a lesser AMP Noco available for $69.99 on Amazon but since I don't know what kind of car we will be purchasing after the first of the year I was thinking the 10amp would be better.

Best part is that it will start both a 5 liter big rig or a 6.2 liter mower.. :chuckle:  I can't verify the big rig or yacht though.

Thank again, Amazon's deal right now is very good. Does this unit come with a charger block & cord?

It comes with a standard USB/USB-C cord, you need to supply the block to plug the supply side of the USB cord into.

Thank you, I'm assuming a phone charger block will work. Or a laptop that is plugged in?

You said you want a jump starter correct? That noco genius is a battery maintainer/battery charger.

Search for the noco booster plus. 1000 amps will jump a V8 and the unit is a size of my hand. If you plan on getting a diesel or a engine that is more than 6 liters you’ll need more amps.

I'd just carry a spare battery.

I’ve got 2 of the noco GB50’s as do a bunch of our techs. They’ve jump started all kinds of vehicles at work including diesel pickups. Always work like a champ.

They’re the same price and 6 times the size and probably 10 times the weight of these little jump packs.

Yeah, anything that has powered USB, even could charge it off your car assuming the battery isn't dead.  It takes a bunch of energy to charge it, so plan on several hours if it's been used a bunch.  I typically pull it out every few months or before a long trip and charge it just to make sure.
