I set my CDS dial to zero at 200 yards. It extends my “plus or minus 2 inches / I don’ t have to think about it” distance to about 275 yards from 225 yards with a 100 yard zero on a 257 Weatherby. I like the extra 50 yards of point-blank range. Beyond that distance I would need to adjust the dial in either instance.

Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

You do exactly what you do with any scope or iron sights that are zeroed for 200, just account for the super slight difference in elevation if you're head shooting a mouse, or hold straight on for anything from a rabbit to moose.

I set my zero at 100 yards , figured might as get the most out of the cap for my shooting ability.

That's not case. The dial only has so much moa adjustment. I could be wrong but by setting your dial start at 100 you'll lose some moa at max distance. Most of us will never shoot max distance of our scope so most likely no big deal.

Your dial will go the same number of mils or moa up regardless of where you set the "zero."  If you set at 200, you can't dial below 200 whereas if you set zero at 100 you can obviously dial 100.

So, if you can dial out to 900 yards (complete random amount), it's always going to dial to 900.  If you set "zero" at 100 you can dial 100-900, if you set to 200 you can dial 200-900.

You lose clicks on the lower end, not the upper end.

For the CDS dial, you don't actually set "zero", you set the minimum distance on the dial at the zero stop and dial up from there.  The MOA or mil numbers are replaced by yardage, so there is no "0" on that dial.

Makes sense.

You can gain yardage....or elevation on your turret by mounting your scope to a 10/20/30 moa rail.  This gives a forward cant to your scope allowing you to get the most out of your scopes elevation adjustment.  Most scopes will come with 80-110 MOA's worth of adjustment.  If you have a 0 MOA rail, you will likely only have half of that adjustment for elevation.  If you put a 20 MOA rail on your rifle, you will gain another 20 MOA worth of elevation adjustment....and so on.  The actual number you have to play with will be determined by multiple factors....so don't assume you have room in your scope for a 30MOA rail.  Most have plenty of room for a 20 MOA rail.  Lots of youtube videos that help explain this concept if my words don't make sense.   :chuckle: :chuckle:
