Wyoming points
« on: October 25, 2022, 09:46:46 AM »
If I have 5 points now and put in for next year, will I have 6 going into the draw? Or only 5 for the draw and 6 if I don’t draw?

I am pretty confident that you will go in with 5 because if/when you don't draw, you buy your point(s) afterwards

Did you already buy your point this year?  What you have after this year is what you go into next years draw with.

Hmmm so it's different than other states? I looked at EpicOutdoors info on the pref point system and it's not clear either. I'd lean towards what y'all are saying though since you have to buy a pref point after the draw...

In montana you can buy point at start of draw - not so in Wyoming.

I'm not sure about that for bonus points, maybe preference.  I seem to remember thinking it was a rip if you draw as you paid for a point you never get.  I think it was worded that way on the application when they were printed, check here to buy a point if you don't draw or something along that line.

If I recall WY preference point deadline is coming up, less than a week.

Ok thanks all, that’s what I thought. I think I’m going to cash in this year and go general. My friend only has two points but I have 5. I have a list of units I want to try. I’ve hunted 94 for a cow, I was too early I think. 21,13,83,67 are all on my list. Snowys…anyone have any experience in these? Grizzly in 83 and 67, lower success rates. Probably less people though.

Just talked to a local friend of mine who hunts 67, he said it's a joke now, 35 horse trailers opening week this year.

If possible apply for special. We didn't draw this on a 3.5 average in regular.  I had 4 and buddy had 3. So confident we would draw we didn't put in for special and got a big surprise.

Any particular questions with grizzlies shoot my a pm. Spent alot of time around them.

You will not draw with 3.5 or probably 4. It was 100% with 4 this year and only 12% with 3.5 and I guarantee it'll take another jump in 2023  :twocents:

Also as others have said, the points you have going into the draw are the points you have. You don't accrue more until you buy them afterwards.

Honestly it may be 50/50 at best with 3.5pts even if you go special  :sry:

yes but it's gonna continue to creep. It jumps .5 every year like clockwork.

You might want to apply individually, you with your 5 points will probably draw. Your friend with two probably won't, but could get lucky. Maybe he could also apply for a cow tag?

I’m thinking about that. I have to find a general unit now with a type 4 tag he can draw with one point at full price.
