Tristar Double Barrel SXS
« on: March 03, 2023, 01:50:49 PM »
I have been looking at these Tristar side by sides on the internet and it appears to be a decent gun at the price point. I think the one I am looking at is around $1000.  Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience with the sxs, but I just bought a tristar viper g2 and I am happy with it.  Seems Tobe good quality for the price point.

A lot of Tristar TT15 trap guns at clubs anymore. They are an entry level target gun, but seem to be doing well. People like them. I'm sure the SxS would be just as good.

Looked at the SXS's a while back and thought they looked good. Know people that have the brand in various styles and they are happy with them.

Excellent. Thanks fellas. I have always wanted a SXS but I want something that I will use and not worry too much about the appearance. Found a lot of cool SXSs but they were all very pricey compared to the Tristar.

Hunting buddy has an over under he uses for pheasant. He has been satisfied with it.

I'm interested in the Tristar Bristol sxs 28ga. It looks like a beautiful shotgun.

Make sure you pattern it.   Until I see a noticeable increase in quality, I’d skip all Turkish guns and get a good used gun, especially a Japanese gun from Miroku or SKB.

I just bought a cz drake o/u, which is a Turkish gun.  First time I shot it ran a 25 shooting trap at 16 yards

That is my other possibility I'm looking at. A CZ Drake 20ga Southpaw (cast-on).

You've got the Southpaw? How do you like it? Do you feel the cast-on makes a difference for your mount and sight picture, as opposed to a neutral-cast gun (most American guns are neutral-cast). I am right handed but left eye dominant and learned how to shoot off my left shoulder over 30 years ago, but it still doesn't come natural to me after all these years. I was wondering if a cast-on shotgun might make it a little more intuitive for me.

Yes I like and it fits me perfectly.  I can't tell you about the difference in cast off cause I never held the regular one.  I would have to compare them side by side to see the difference.

I recently bought a CZ Ringneck in 20 guage from a member. Great gun, but different shooting a SxS. I think most of it is me overthinking it. It is a blast though...my son is also taking a liking to it  :chuckle: Runs flawlessly and is the most beautiful gun I own.

Is there a problem with the pattern on the SXS? Please advise whoever put that up here if you see this. Thanks!

Regulation, pattern, triggers, etc.  Contrary to what some gun writers are trying to say, most people understand that Turkish guns are still garbage.  There’s a few coming out that are OK, but for the price, there’s WAY better guns on the used market for the same price.   Google “are Turkish shotguns junk” and enjoy your reading.   There’s no way I’d buy a Turkish built gun when you can buy a Miroku or Japanese built SKB for almost the same price.

Well the cz and the tristar I just picked up seem to be shooting pretty damn good.  When they seem to miss its this guys fault.

I don't see anything wrong in getting a Turkish made shotgun. Just look at who is putting their names on some, Weatherby, Savage/Stevens and even the Brazil companies are going Turkish. The new edition of Shotgun Sports has an article on the Savage/Steven's 555, all positive. I shoot competition with Brownings, but I carry spare parts and tool kit whenever I'm over 3 hours from home. It's a sickening feeling when your gun breaks down in the middle of a shoot. My field guns are Beretta, Stoeger, Winchester, and Biakal. If I win the LOTO my next shotgun will be a Blaser.
