Shoot or No Shot 2023 – Episode #2
« on: April 17, 2023, 02:28:39 PM »
Location: Somewhere in the elk woods
Hunt Pressure Status: Minimal
Hunt: Partner hunt (split up for this hunt)
Date/Time: Early OCT, early evening
Tag: Muzzleloader; 3 PT (or better) bull or antlerless

Situation:  You and your partner recently split up to work your separate routes up into a couple of parallel benches; benches/spots are about 200 yards apart.  After 20 minutes or so, you hear a bull bugle to your 10 o’clock at what you feel is the area your buddy was working into.  Cool!  As you continue on your route, a bull appears in front of you (moving slowly from right to left) … quite possibly moving in the direction of the vocal bull.  You’re 60 yards away from the bull; what’s the plan Stan?  Shooter has his/her smoke pole shouldered………. shoot or no shot here?

If you're shooting, save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, then place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg or png and add the marked up pic with your post.

I'll pass on that shot, continue to do him towards the other bull and hope for a better opportunity on one or the other bulls.  If that doesn't work, back to calling, I like my odds with a legal satellite.

Some people will probably not like it. But at 60 yards Thats a dead bull with a neck shot.

You and me both   Right click, save image to desktop. Right click, open with MS Paint. Once opened, you’ll see that you can select an x or whatever. Pick your color, mark the spot and then save your chances. Add the pic to your post and you’re in like flint. Call me and I’ll walk you thru it, nothing to it. v/RJ 3604033744.

I think that shot is a smidgen high. But it will get the job done.

I would agree tho it mitigates the chance of deflection from brush.
I wouldn’t take that shot with a bow even at 30 yards but a muzzy I would
