« on: May 31, 2023, 11:23:21 AM »
Anybody shrimping? We went out of Sequim on Sunday. Great day with the wife and some seriously good dinners. Got my kid to try a piece of Panko fried flounder, and she ate the whole dang thing! :chuckle:

I think I will grab a lawn chair and watch the boat launch at John Wayne next opener. I drove down to help a buddy with his pot puller and it was amazing what I saw.

Bring a video camera & post it up. It could be like Miami boat ramps on the YouTube’s

We launched Sunday at ~6:30. No wait and even got a spot in the lot!

Super good eating. Smaller flat fish we like to do Chinese steamed whole fish.

Nice. I need to up my shrimp game. I think I'm still making my bait too thick. Doing OK, but not fantastic.

I try to make mine where it is gone except for the pellets in 1 hour.

How much are you putting in your bait container and how much is left after an hour soak. Sounds like you are getting your limits so something is working.

Missed the opener in Hood Canal. Been busy catching springers on the Columbia. Well, that and honeydoos. Sister and brother in law went last weekend and did great. Planning on hitting the next few openings!

Filling bait container and at least 1/2-3/3 full after an hour.  Use dry cat food, wet cat food, canned mackerel and Pro Cure. I think my issue is that the dry food continues to absorb liquid overnight. I loosened it up with procure while out in the boat, but not enough. My deck also ended up slick as hell from spilled bait!  :o

We just use cans of whitefish pate cat food. Punch a dozen or so holes in the can and it wicks out well.

Don't notice anyone around us doing any better and a heck of a lot easier provided you can find a place that has it this time of year.

Was just back in South Carolina on vacation & took a day to drive up into North Carolina. Stopped in Calabash for lunch & had the flounder/shrimp Calabash style lunch special that is a staple apparently. It was the best meal I had the whole 10 days. Good stuff!

I use an actual handheld mortar mixer (NOT a drill) to mix my bait..
the consistency I go for is more like thick mashed potatoes... thick enough to put into the bait can, but not runny to where the oils drip all over the boat.
TOO runny and you lose half of the scent/bait before the pot even hits the bottom.
Having it frozen a bit also helps keep it together as it drops.

Last weekend was epic, perfect tides for where I was.  Three limits in one trip through the pots and we put back probably 150-200.  Only 3 pots fished well, 4th must have landed wonky or in a patch of junk.

We went runnier than normal since we fished closer to slack water.  I try to adjust consistency based on current to have similar soak times for a given amount of current.

Yes the tides were pretty much perfect. Awesome to go a 2+ hour stretch with currents under .2

Hood Canal has been easy shrimping.  Boat launch out of Seabeck is always a chit show.  Just got to be patient.
Took a total of 4 pots to get 3 limits in one soak and we were done in just over an hour.
