It’s almost like CCA and Wild Fish Conservancy are on the same team?

...says the pro gillnet guy.  It's not hard for people and organizations with many different views to agree that gillnets suck.  Because they suck.

Are you familiar with why keeping some gill nets are important?
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

When Jamie Glasgow of WFC was asked by Kirk Pearson which hatcheries he supported, his answer was “closed ones”. My point is that consumptive users can fight amongst ourselves and lose or we can join together for more production for all.

Just to make sure I understand this right... Most of the people who turned in their gillnet licenses weren't contributing to very much of the harvest, but the license holders who catch the most are refusing to turn in their licenses and are taking advantage of less competition for the same quota? It's like late stage gillnet capitalism.

Nobody refused to turn in their license. 69 licenses chose remain in business. There was a bill last session to ban Columbia River gillnets and it did not move out of the policy committee. The Legislature instead put $500k in the budget to facilitate Pound nets/fish traps, beach seines etc.

So, what exactly are you doing trying to attach CCA to WFC's overall agenda which is anti-hatchery?  CCA is and always has been pro-hatchery.  Their lobbying efforts are directly responsible for us still having as much hatchery production as we do in Washington and Oregon.  They fully understand that without hatcheries we are soon without fisheries.

The habitat ship has long since sailed.  There isn't enough money or willpower to fix the habitat in most places to make it self sustain like it did before man screwed in up.

So again I ask, if cooperation is the key why are you trying to tie CCA to WFC's anti-hatchery stance?

No more hatcheries SHOULD be the end goal to have strong healthy runs that don't need support. In the meantime support away with hatcheries until our habitat improves enough to self support. It sure would be nice if we could walk across the river on the backs of salmon.

https://nwsportsmanmag.com/task-force-makes-key-recommendations-for-orcas-chinook/

We were able to get a recommendation of up to 50 million additional chinook. I haven’t seen where CCA is fighting for those 50 million additional Chinook.

We will learn to work together to enhance fish and wildlife or our common heritage of hunting and fishing will perish.
