Mesh mats for grill/smoker
« on: July 29, 2023, 02:01:24 PM »
Anyone use these and have a recommendation on which to get?  I'm looking for something to cut down on the fish sticking to the smoker rack and for making cleanup easier.

Thanks

For fish sticking to the rack I use the spray on olive oil from Winco. It works great.

They are great for veggies but never used them for fish

I use the Weber high temp spray on the racks. It works great.
I do use grill mats on the grill occasionally. They work well with Fish and veggies. The problem I see with using mats in a smoker is they block smoke from below. I don’t really know it that is an issue though.
I have used grill baskets in my smoker, I spray those as well.

Ran the WSM today for pork butt.......nice greasy crust left on the grates. Tomorrow, I'll drop them in a garbage can and cover with water and dish soap and soak for couple hours and then scrub it off. Price to pay for the disorganized.

For fish or anything smoked at lower temp's I use Smokehouse Products Drying screens. Got a pack 10" x 16" several years ago and they work great in my Little Chief and Big chief smokers. That's all I smoke fish in. Skin on Or skin off they don't stick. They are made for the Big chief but I cut them down for the smaller one. Have lasted several years. Just toss them in the dish washer if needed. Says not to expose to temp's over 250* though.     www.Smokehouseproducts.com      I use the copper mesh mats on the gas grill for vegi's etc.
