Salmon charter @ Westport in Sept…worth it?
« on: August 17, 2023, 06:15:48 PM »
I’ve fished Westport for salmon numerous times in July and August, but never as late as Sept. Are hatchery coho non-existent in Sept?  Has anyone had any salmon success on a charter in Sept? I’m considering a trip 9/9. Any info much appreciated!

Hatchery silvers will not be gone. If anything, there might be more. The way those things eat they put on weight fast, so the later you go the bigger they tend to run. Might be fewer kings, but my personal best Westport king was after Labor Day.

I have a charter on October 5th for their in-bay salmon and dungeness crab. For the last 2.5 years I have never missed limiting out with this charter

Plenty of Coho in September
Won a derby out in the ocean at La Push few years back with a 18.8 hatchery silver

Fished last year on the last day, 28th? Jumbo silvers in close with a few kings tossed back. Other than a few tuna boats running, the place was ours. If it was open, a person could catch big silvers out there into December.
