.32-40 in 30-30 casing?
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:34:16 AM »
I ordered some ammo from old western scrounger, says 32-40 on the box but inside all the casings are 30-30. Note inside said some obsolete ammo is reloaded in a readily available casing and that they are safe to use, what do you guys think? should I shoot these through my rifle? Its an OLD marlin .32-40 lever gun prolly 19th century vintage. thanks

Well, we used to shoot 32s through the 30-30 that were necked down and I believe a bunch of military brass that was 30-06 necked down to the 25-06 sooooooooo........

I’d check with the source before using them.  The .32 special and 30/30 have the same parent case but I don’t think the .32-40 does.  I could be wrong but better safe than sorry.

It is OK.  I've done that for the one I had long ago when 32-40 was Unobtainium.  the basic case is very close.
A Smith & Wesson Beats Four Aces.

Whatta ya mean I can't have one of each?

What we have here is...Washington Department of NO Fish and WATCHABLE Wildlife.

If I remember right, 32-40 can be fire formed from .30-30. OR , you run .30-30 through a .32-40 resizing die. Something like that. A web search should find some info. Search gun shows for brass. 'bout all I know on this one. :dunno:
