Back from Lake Chelan
«
on:

Just got back from Lake Chelan from a Saturday trip and just whacked the lakers. Four of us got more than we ever planned on. We were fishing with Darrel and Dad out of Manson. Great guide for a first time lake user. Got them on purple flat fish right off the bottom. According to the guide, we have the most fish for them in one day for the year so far. Had a great time. If you have not been there, look up Darrel and Dad guide service...

You say that you got them off the bottom, what depth was that? 80', 200'
I have two down riggers on our boat that only go down to 150' was wondering if that would be deep enough?

Congrats on providing those young'uns a great experience. Did you catch them mainly off Manson? That is where the highest concentrations of DDT from old orchard runoff occur.
Do them and yourself a favor, check into DDT in Lake Chelan macks before you feed too much of that fish to them. I'm not usually a nervous nelly, but that's a bunch of mackinaw, and if there are serious effects, they are primarily to children.
http://www.ecy.wa.gov/biblio/0503014.html
A TMDL study of Lake Chelan and Roses Lake fish was conducted to address section 303(d) listings for 4,4′-DDE, PCB-1254, and PCB-1260 in edible fish tissue. Resident fish, surface water, and sediments were analyzed for DDT and its metabolites as well as for PCBs.
Total DDT in tissue ranged from 6 - 2,400 ug/Kg, with the highest concentrations found in mackinaw (lake trout). PCBs were generally low in all matrices. To meet water quality targets for total DDT, Wapato basin mackinaw need a 97% reduction and Roses Lake rainbow trout a 67% reduction in total DDT concentrations. Tributaries and drains discharging to the Wapato basin will need total DDT reductions up to 97%.

Fish To Limit From Lake Chelan
Lake Trout (Mackinaw):
The general public, especially women who might
become pregnant, who are pregnant, nursing
mothers, and young children should limit lake
trout to one meal per week due to DDT.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when. No habitat = no game.

teacherman:
We went straight out to the opposite side of the lake from the landing and trolled a large circle and were down about 200' for the larger fish. After that we went to a place he called the Monument which wsas up the lake about 1/2 mile on the opposite side (Alt 97 side) where a trailer with an out building is next to the water. There we averaged about 150' and took at least two fish per pass. Again we looped about a 1/4 mile loop basically right over the previous pass. Hope this helps.

: Thanks for the tip. We did see some sign about possible chemicals but did not think it said lakers...we will check it out. Thanks again.

Get serious about DDT. Yeah it was in the seals in Antartica until later was proven to be part of their DNA. Also show where DDT ever harmed a human. Park the EPA bus, and start fishing. You think you are not eating DDT in every imported fruit, vegetable, or any other produce? If you do you better check closer, and that includes Mexico for imports. Sounds like you guys fished the Manson basin where it gets deep going uplake from the Casino or Manson Launch.
