Vancouver Lake worth it? (Shillapoo)
« on: June 22, 2024, 09:44:50 AM »
Hi all,
I've gotten my 10 year old daughter through the hunters ed course and I'm looking for local areas to get here some experience. I haven't ever tried the area around Vancouver lake, is it doable for a first time kid hunt for small game or is it overrun  with people during September-December? We live in Longview, WA so I'm trying to find some accessible locations that aren't a massive hike into...at least not for this year!

Buy the weyerhouser walk in permit for 100.00 bucks and hunt 10 minuted from your house. Best money you will ever spend having a kid with you. Once u buy it message me and I’ll give a place or two to see animals.

Did you try Van Lake this fall? This Thanksgiving is the last weekend. It can be quite crowded but sometimes you get lucky. Be sure to wear eye protection from stray pellets. There is a Youth Hunt held in September so you should look into that.  Have a look at website for VancouverWildlife (.org) as they organize that and also have some other events for young folks.
