Please help with a general area to hunt in 407 or 437
« on: October 21, 2024, 10:31:03 PM »
Hello all!

I come to this page and creep on all the posts, thank you all for submitting and keeping this page going.

I am in a bit of a pickle. I thought Mule deer was open until the end of this week, BUTTTT it turns out it closes tomorrow. I had a trip planned and scouted and I had a major brain fart big time (I blame my kids making me go crazy). I am now shifting my focus to blacktail while the season is still open :)

Can anyone help me with a spot in either 407 or 437. Those units had a fairly high hunter success rate and they are pretty close to where I am here in Snohomish. I will be heading out Wednesday for a few nights. Any tips are greatly appreciated. I have not hunted the Westside in a few years - looking forward to getting after it.

Good Morning. GMU 407 largely Private Land. Just an FYI before you get your hopes up.

I haven't hunted 407 or 437 but I've looked at them on online map stuff. Take highway 9 north from sedro wolley or highway 20 east. Lotsa public. Sorta looks like 407 is mostly DNR land. Onx is pretty cool for public land(or even private if you need a phone number to call for permission). The wdfw hunt planner seems sorta interesting as well but I dont have much experience with it.

If I still lived in Snohomish County, I would hunt 437 and 448 hard.  Lots of public lands, probably a lot of gates so hike in would be great to keep crowd down to only dedicated peoples.  My old neighbor in Lake Stevens had a stack of skull capped Blacktails in his living room from those two units.  He would focus on cuts that were fresh up to 3-4 years old so he could see deer.  Of course, he was a timber estimator so he was always in the woods and knew which areas had fresh logging activity.  Either way, get out there, get on fresh sign, hike in, and enjoy the blacktail rut!  Good Luck!
