What to expect fishing around the Spokane river confluence?
« on: March 11, 2025, 07:36:53 AM »
Gonna be at the fort camping for a night the first weekend of April, taking a couple buddies fishing for their birthday's.

I've never fished around that area, were leaving the boat at home and just casting from the bank. Can anyone tell me how the fishing is around there? Target species is trout.
Any hot tips you'd care to share? We normally just trout fish the tucannon, trying to broaden our horizons lol.

Most go across the road from the campground and shore fish across from the marina. Best baits seem to be the chartreuse and orange power baits with a little scent applied and fished about 3' off the bottom. Make sure to anchor your rod as bites have a tendency to be very hard and I've seen a couple people go in the water after their poles got yanked in. Bites seem to go in cycles with maybe an hour wait and then several hits then a wait again. Will be cold and most get a little fire going to sit around while waiting. Usually pretty good that time of year.

There are walleye in that area too. Add a piece of worm to your powerbait. Use a worm injector to shoot a tiny bit of air into the worm to get it to float off the bottom.

Might also remind you.that you can only keep.hatchery fish.  If they've got an adipose fin they must be released. They do check in that area fairly often and unfortunately most of the bigger fish have fins.

After 2 solid days of very frustrating fishing, only had a single trout to my name. Buddy did get a small walleye on day 2. I cant even count how many break offs we had getting weights stuck in rocks, needed heavier weight for sure. We struggled keeping the bait still on bottom.

I had a big fish on for a minute, ended up getting the weight stuck in some rocks and broke off, and had another decent fish on about 20 minutes after that that broke my knot. I have my trout rods rigged up with 4# test.
Were headed back to the same spot on the 2nd to give it a go again. I think this was just a bad week of fishing.
