A lonely Job...
« on: July 01, 2025, 10:18:31 AM »
...But quite satisfying.
Spending time alone out on the Trapline, away from the everyday cares of life. Focusing on the task at hand, thinking about what waits behind the next tree. Listening for that warning rustle brought in by the wind, just before you see their cold stare, as they watch your every move.

Loup Loup, I remember my "Mentor" AL, started making Wallets too from all the Western Washington Beaver he would Trap.
He used to throw his Dog "Chief" a Foot or two as a Treat to chew on as he watched him Skin for hours on end.
Do you render you're Tails out for the Oil, after you skin them? :)

AWs Son:
I sell the tail skin and render the tails into oil.
Must be careful with the oil. I told Randy S, a maker of beaver tail leather products, and beaver tail oil, that his BTO had magical quality’s to it. He asked how’s that? I told him I had to stop using it in the fall for wolves as every time I did,
it would make a bear appear out of thin air. I bought a gallon from Randy this spring. $70.
This batch I just put up will be ready in two years.
The dogs give me their rapt attention when I’m puttin up beavers. The feet are good busy work for them.

Alright, aside from the route that we’d all REALLY like to go; which is trapping, skinning and fleshing a beaver.  How would a guy go about getting his hands on one of these wallets and how much would it run?  That thing is SERIOUSLY awesome!  8)
