If you are gonna try to get an elk tag, best of luck!  You'll have to be first in line, and have an employee that knows what they are doing.  Fred meyer opens at 6 by my work, I'd have to be standing at the doors at 6 (or before) and get to the counter and sit for 4 hours, and then hope the person has half a brain. The tags will be gone in seconds.
worse than the Idaho tag sales :chuckle:
BOOM!!!!  way worse, lol.   I'm not even gonna try this year and I've been successful twice in the past with these draws.  The lady who I went to retired, she was on it!!  And I did take the 4 hours of vacation to be first in line.

So here is an idea, how about when you put in for them you pay your money up front for tag if you don't get drawn you get a refund, problem solved.

Other states do it. I do wonder if the amount of interest they would collect would be worth the amount of work involved.

Imagine if the dealer at the store you stand in line for hours, wants the tag and does himself first?!! lol, no one would get one after him!  I can see that happening.

Im just fed up with the whole multi season draw system, why not just make it an OTC tag for residences and charge $300.00 including tag and then make it a draw only for non residences . With around 11,000 hunter trying to get 8500 permitts and then have 2300 permitts returned i think it would work out for everyone in the long run. The people that really want one will pay the money and those that think it too exspensive wont.

The dealer here in Goldendale does that for his brother.  Why not draw from the pool of names that didn't get one since they already paid the fee to be in the drawing.  And then they should be able to purchase it at the lower price before the increase took effect.  This state is really getting out of hand.

My wife used to work the customer service desk at FM (and knew how to sell licenses) wish she still worked there and worked next Tuesday. Not really, she makes a hell of a lot more $$$ now.  :chuckle:

I do wish they had a better system, I have to work Tuesday, no chance for me to get 1.

2600 didn't purchase the tag, it's not that they purchased then returned.  Requiring upfront purchase with refund if not drawn would solve 95% of that.

The people that were drawn for special permits likely don't purchase multi-season, at least nobody I know does.  If I draw a tag for a species with a bag limit of one for the year, I'm going to notch my tag on that special hunt.  I'd imagine a good chunk of the non-purchases are from holders of other special permits.  Then throw in drawing tags out of state with high success too and all of the sudden many people don't need multi-season, they'll already have full freezers.
