For as many as I saw last year they better be popping the little ones out like an Arab with a haram.

Pheasant hatch is very poor.   Hail hammered them right at the wrong time.  Very few chicks remaining.  Not a lot of wild birds anyway.   Quail split, first wave got hammered, but a "second" batch has come off real well.  They are older and feathered good so should make it fine.  I haven't seen any partridge or chukars, and that doesn't bode well becasue I usually have by now.

In concurrence.  Quails first brood got slammed.  Seeing more lil guys now though.  Seen one group of huns with good sized chicks strong enough to fly well.

Here is one I caught in the junipers tonight. The rest of the covey were deep in the bush.  There are about three new coveys running around.  This group is the youngest.  Got to love the California Quail.

It is looking like it is going to be a tough year around the Columbia Basin.

The North Palouse isn't looking good either, but after two consecutive Winters of 100"  :yike: snowfall totals; I'm not too surprised. On my early morning fishing trips, I'm seeing very few pheasants, about the same amount of quail and ZERO Huns. :'( The intense, "clean" farming practices along with record snow leaves very little Winter cover for the birds. :twocents:

Just saw a batch of brand new babies (Quail) out by my bird pens this morning while feeding with Lil Bone.  They like the cover I have and the stray corn.  Sure cute.
