I was out glassing for several miles this spring along an area where the greens were just starting to sprout as the snow left.  I should have seen 75% of the deer in the area (based on what I know of the area), and I saw 110% of what I expected a decent year to be; oh, and they are all whitetail in that area.  I quit counting rather quickly, but I'd say there were maybe 500-700 in 3 miles: basically 3 deer under every bush on the hill; shouldn't be hard to find a doe that wants a quick exit.  The disappointing part was that there were only about 75 elk in that same stretch, and I was expecting to see around 150-200.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

Wolves have a lot larger impact on elk than they do whitetails.  Idaho had a pretty substantial winter in the whitetail areas and had some losses, but I think hunting should be good still.
