Around the campfire....
« on: June 28, 2009, 09:45:58 PM »
This weekend we were back at my family's cabin in Chiwawa.  Friday night we were BS'ing around the campfire when my brittany wanders off and starts barking up a storm at something nearby.  Hmmm, what's that all about?

Around midnight, we're still at the fire when the flash on my trailcam goes off.  The cam is 35-40 yards from our fire and BS session.  As we continue to talk with normal volume, the flash goes off 8 more times over the next 10 minutes or so (1 minute delay) til I finally decide to investigate and the critter bolts.  Here's the photo session.  Apparently he didn't get his fill, as he apparently came back at 3:54am (last pic).

I swear they KNOW it isnt hunting season.  How many believe they have a sixth sense and know you wont hurt them?  Until hunting season comes and then they disappear.

He looks healthy.  Might be a good season.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I seem to get a lot of small bucks on the cam, but rarely good ones.  Not surprising since these should all be residents this time of year.  The bigguns should have all migrated through already.

This one does look pretty healthy.  Not so good for a few smaller bucks that came in last week.  You could see the ribs on one.

To answer one of the other questions, I've had mineral blocks out there for three summers now.  I get quite a few buck pics this time of year, but it really tapers off by the end of the summer.  I assume that's because they don't have the same mineral needs after the horns are fully grown.   :dunno:  Or maybe they can smell when the broadheads come out to play?   :chuckle:
