W300 and flash question
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:02:24 AM »
I am getting ready to hack a Sony W300 camera I got on a good deal. WhAT I would like to know is this. Has anyone removed the flash from the internals of a Sony Camera and mounted it on the outside of a pelican case? It seems this would make the flash the most effective. Comments?

I guess the flash on the outside would make it more effective. But also u would have to protect it from the elements and critters.

I don't think the gain would be worth the hassle  :dunno:

Have you tried putting together a slave flash yet? I'm not super happy with the range of the flash on these homebrews simply because I'd like to see 60-80 feet out in clearings. I just ordered a Vivitar 2800, and will be getting a slavemaster board sometime soon to try out. I'm wondering if I can fit a W220 with three C batteries, the yeticam board, and a slave flash w/4 C batteries all in a 1060 case  :chuckle:

Have you timed the W300? Is the startup time better than your W150? Just curious!

I'd love to see build-along instructions with this, if that's something you're up for.

It'll be a few weeks before I've gathered all the parts, but I will try to take lots of pics and keep it organized. I haven't put together a slave flash yet, so I won't know exactly what I'm doing  ;)

The W300 hasn't arrived yet, but has been shipped. I tried a simple slave flash with just an optical sensor. It only worked on the first flash so it wasn't good for the Sony camera. I have an idea for another try but I need to get some things caught up. The slavemaster board looks good but is more than I like to spend. I am a cheapskate. I figure why buy something I can build for twice the cost.
