Ryderwood
« on: July 02, 2009, 08:40:35 PM »
Anyone hunt Ryderwood for muzzleloader last year? I was just wondering what gates were open during the oct. season last year? I hunted ryderwood with modern firearm last year and there was a lot of open gates. But I switched this year to muzzle loader and have a cow tag was just wondering on access. Any help would be great thanks!!

Typically timber company gates in this unit get opened the day before muzzleloader opens the first part of october unless it is still real dry.  Then they will keep them locked until significant rain fall lessens the fire danger. There are still the walk in only areas that stay locked up year around. There was a pretty good block of state land up off of the King Road that just got traded to Port Blakely not sure what there access policy.

Expect lots of people as it is a very popular area during the early muzzle elk hunt.

I plan on hunting off of King Road starting Aug 1 with the Biostfort tag I drew.  I will let you know if I get into any elk.

last 2yrs they were open because it was wet the 2 before they were closed for fire danger. keeping my fingers crossed i have vacation for the whole early season. i can walk from the house but getting them home is easier when thier open.
