Now we wait(Montana)
« on: April 05, 2026, 06:41:05 PM »
How is everybody feeling with the Montana draws likely to be done within the next week or so, I’ve got 2 pts for the deer combo and with the reduction of tags this year 2 pts is no longer almost a sure thing I feel.

I think you will be fine with 2 points.  It's the 1 point crowd (my group), that are probably going to be affected.   1 point was 47% last year with just over 2000 tags drawn.   That 2500 reduction is going to hurt us.   All going to depend on how many applicants there are this year.

I’m in for 2 for deer. I think this year 2 should still get drawn. After this year tho, I think 3 will be the new standard for sure chances to draw. 75% of the tags given starting at the top point holders, and 25% from the bottom. Next year the 2 point pool will be much larger. This is the way I understand it anyway.

Wonder how many NR are NOT applying this year because of gas prices , lack of deer and reduced tags ?

It hasnt made a difference in the last 7 years at all. Youre already into the tag, gear, etc. for so much whats another few hundred in fuel for most that chose to hunt out of state

Fuel prices also are a roller coaster. Just because they are high now doesn't mean they will be high during hunting season and the same goes for the inverse.

I guess the fuel cost really isn't an issue.  Ok wonder how many people are gonna not enter because of the reduction in tags and the lack of deer ?
