Bear/Tweeker boxes?

Aybody biuld their own boxes to protect their cams from Bears and Tweekers?

I have been rolling ideas around in my head but was gonns see if people would post some pics of theirs.

I have been thinking fr useing auluminium but steel would be easyer to weld for me. I don't have a TIG setup yet.

I've been trying to perfect my boxes.  I'll post pics when I get them to work better.

I wouldn't be building them out of aluminum unless you can get your materials for nothing.  I agree with markts, I think it would attract tweekers.

I just need to figure out how to attach it to the tree so they can't steal the box and all.

I was planning on useing a python cable lock. Has anybody had one stolen from a tree yet?

Check out Bobr's most recent posts, he has a bear box he made for his homebrew.  I don't think it will keep Tweaker's out, but will keep the bears away.

Unfortunately I had 3 cams stolen this year. Here are a couple styles, one using angle iron the other using U channel. The U channel unit could also use a large J bolt on the bottom like what is used in the others...........Scott

  How do you get those into the woods?  I gues thye won't be steeling anymore cams.LOL

I like the smaller one with the J bolt and lock. that is a good simple idea.

Thank you for the welcome BobR and fishcrazy. Yeah, it sucks that I have to spend more time building security than the cams, and the added weight is a bummer. Not as much of a bummer as walking up and having two still cams and a video unit gone!

I always hope that someone walking in the woods will have a minimum of tools, a hacksaw and some patience will still get you into mine, not many hike around with them in their back pocket. A crappy knife and a rock will get a python lock off in less than 5  minutes

Bearpaw the screws work great for keeping the bears off the cams, otherwise they take it as a personal challenge to bite holes in the units. Not a big deal now when we are at 3 weeks of 100 degrees, but spring rains can fill them up quick. All of my builds have screws around the cam sensitive areas...................Scott

Are those home brew cameras. Is that why they look bigger than a normall cam. Therer are guys on this site that biuld cams and get some great pics. I think you will fit right in with these guys.

The top cam is a Sony W80 with a Yeti board, the green cam is a DXG HD video unit, and the bottom unit is a Nikon L11 with Yeti board and D external batteries. I really like the L11 cameras, although converting one to IR is a real task......Scott

here's some boxes I've been working on for the Moultrie D-40, the shell is 1/8" steel and has heavy hinges and you will be able to lag bolt them or strap them to a tree, I have two boxes sold and 3-4 more available soon if any ones looking for a Bear Box for a D-40 PM me for details.
