Wells Dam Boat Launch Information with Photos.
« on: July 18, 2009, 08:54:06 AM »
Turn off of Hwy 97 at the Wells Dam turnoff. Follow the road down towards the dam and you'll come to this T intersection.

Turn Right and follow the road (about a 1/2 mile) until you see this sign on the right. It marks the left turn to get down to the boat launch.

The turn off is also marked on the left by these signs. Turn left into the orchard.

You'll have to drive this road through an orchard.
Go slow because the pot holes will bounce your boat right off of your trailer. At the end of this road turn right.

After you've turned right you'll see this.

Make the hairpin curve and you'll end up at the boat launch.
Here's three photos of the boat launch so that you can get an idea from different perspectives.
NEVER...NEVER...NEVER Leave your boat unattended at this boat launch. The PUD raises & lowers
the water level all of the time. I've seen boats high & dry setting for over 8 hours.

And then you get to look forward to this style of fishing.:guns: :guns: :guns:

Good Luck & I hope to see you on the water.

Are those boats anchored in the current or under power? Anyone got the hot setup for fishing from a boat? It looks like those guys are using downriggers?

The boats are under power. The current can change extremely fast and being tied up with an anchor could be very dangerous. If you hook into a 30 or 40 pound Salmon you'll want to be able to brake away from the pack so that you can enjoy the fight and not tangle with the other boats gear and downrigger cables. Folks in this area will move and give you room to fight your fish. The hot setup yesterday was a Brad's Super Bait Red Hotter Tamale baited with oil packed light Tuna pulled behind a matching flasher off of your downriggers.

Well I guess you can't ask for more details than that, thanks BigD. We will be over there the 6th-10th, I will let you know if we can finally hook one.

We will be camping at Beebee and have always just launched there and run up. So you drop in and troll up stream rather than just hold in the current or slowly back down? Are you dropping right down to the bottom?

You dont drop it to the bottom just like mid way. if you got a fish finder you may be able to see whre the majority of the fish are. but just a lil secret 10-14 ft down does fine.
then just backtroll and sweep the spot. if thats what most everyone is doing. Or just make circles in the pocket.  ;)
