Rechoking a shotgun

Has anyone ever had a fixed choke shotgun opened up?  If so, are you happy with the outcome? 

I have a couple of old Browning A5s that I just love but don’t use much because they are so tightly choked.  Rather than get another gun I thought I might have one rechoked from full to modified, or fitted with screw ins.  Any ideas on what this would cost and who does such work in the Everett area?

Man, those A5s are pieces that need to be left alone, especially if they are Belgium made.  Go spend 277.00 at Wally World and get an 870 with screw in chokes.  Then you can use what ever choke you want, and change the barrels out for diff. applications, also.

you can handload spreader thingy that are supposed to open up the pattern a bit never used them though. i agree with huntbear leave them alone or if you can buy a new barrel and have that threded (dont know if thats even possible never really looked at the a5 just shot my father in laws always wanted one though)

Most of my fixed choke guns have been custom choked.  I pick up great deals on guns even if they a choked wrong and and have them fitted to my hunting/shooting style.  Picked up a Browning Superposed Lightning 20ga M&F Rechoked to IC&IM, now it's agreat upland gun over close working dogs.  My old Win 101 Trap Gun was rechoked from F&F to a tight IC and IM fro shooting Live birds at hunt test and works well for sporting clays, also had a Win 101 12ga 26" IC&M redone to SK&SK when I was shooting Int Skeet.  Mike Nelson in Tacoma does them, so does Stan Bakers on Lake City Way in Bothel?  Last one I had done was about 10yrs ago, $50.

Unless you have them for an investment, what good are they if they don't work for you.  I don't plan to sell any of my favorites and I don't care what they're worth after I'm done with them, I plan to shoot them till they are worn out anyways.

Exactly my thoughts; they are great guns but if I don’t use them they are just good for dusting and rusting.

Briley and Colonial will thread those barrels for choke tube and they even have steel safe tubes.

I kinda agree.  Messing w/ em, especially screw ins would likely kill the value. 

Other guns it's not usually a big deal.  I seem to recall it's under a 100 to open up a choke and not too much more to thread a barrel.  The thickness of the wall sometimes is a factor.
