Eastern WA Deer Huntin Newbie

I've never hunted deer in central nor eastern WA. I'm pretty new at hunting. I've took one blackail myself a year ago but have been with others and tagged along for years. I plan on hunting with my dad near eastern wa anywhere from ellensburg to spokane or farher north. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lots of places around here to go. I would get a topo map and look at the Colville National Forest area. There seem to be alot of road hunters, around that area. I got mine last year just off the road. I could see the folks driving past. I just sat and waited. You can take a look at the roads that go to areas, look for water and clear areas close to thick places. Blanchard hump isn't too bad, just crowded. Consider going during the weekdays. You would be suprised at the good areas just a few hundred yards off the roads. Networking your friends, and your dad's friends may be a good idea also. Good Luck

I hunt mainly north of Spokane around the Colville area and there are a ton of road hunters pretty much every weekend.  If you are willing to scout and hike in to areas you can usually get away from the people.  I would recomend getting some maps and look them over.  There is a ton of forest service, state, and game refuge land that are available to hunt on.  You can always start going to the WDFW website and read up there.  There is a ton of useful information there with maps, harvest results per GMU and the Go Hunt feature.  If you have any questions let me know I was raised in that area and know it pretty well.

Check out the southeastern part of the state around Walla Walla and Dayton.  Theres lots of people that hunt down there but we always seemed to do pretty good.  Lots of mulies and whitetails, heck you'll have a great chance at getting a shot at a coyote or two also.  There is lots of private land but the landowners mostly seem very cooperative, feel free to hunt signs all over the place.

I agree with (ing).  I hunt dayton every year.  There is a lot of public land and private that you would be able to hunt.  There is a lot of nice bucks that come out of there.  Most areas that I know have roads on top of the hillsides and roads on the bottom.  So you shouldn't have to drag anything uphill.  Thats my

  About 70 miles west of Spokane on highway 2 south of Creston is 12,500 acres of DNR land called Swanson Lakes. If you get in early on opening day and let all the other hunters move things around, there are some nice muley in there. I took a 116" x 23" wide three point out of there. The only bad part is that they get ALOT of presasure that first weekend and get pushed to private land. There is some private land east of the DNR land owned by a man named Everett Cole. He controls about the same amount of land right next door. It would be worth a try to ask to hunt his land.  All open sage brush and little draws where the deer can hide and get some shade. Lots of water out there also. I geuss it depends whether or not you want a muley or a whitetail.

MT Spokane and Hucklebery have the highest harvests in the state. Lots of private property though. 49 Degrees another good one has a ton of forest service, public access.

Drive the back roads in the evenings, look for deer in farmers fields. Knock and talk. To many people are afraid to ask. What are they going to do? Say no. I've had a lot of yeas from farmers.

Pa Ben and Mossback have great tips thats how i killed three of my bucks we ask permisson at a guys house thats where we saw most of the bucks on his property and he said yes probably because we buttered him up with some salmon
