Bull's Shedding?
« on: August 10, 2009, 02:00:44 PM »
Who has seen bulls shedding velvet this year.

I spoke with a bear hunter up in Nooksack that said he saw a big bull with Velvet hanging.

Anybody else?

Seems early still for the ones I have seen lately.  Couple weeks.

They should be starting now and most should be done within the next 3 weeks.  THere are always outliers.  I stalked a huge 6x6 on Peaches on Sept 8th that was still in Velvet.

Hogsniper told me last year on the 29th of August he saw a big bull in Nooksack whose antlers were pitch black with ivory tips.

I saw two 6-point bulls in full velvet jogging along the road as I was driving through Teanaway on Friday morning.  That was a most unexpected site! :IBCOOL:

In the Okanogan country this weekend I saw a 3" tree mauled.  Definately fresh, if not earlier in the morning that I was there.  Sure wouldn't think a deer rite now, but no sign of moose or elk in the area....ever.....?

I was in the high country on Saturday in 356 and didn't see any rubs but also didn't have time to get far from the trail.  However, I was thinking the same thing... it has to be close to being TIME!  Fall was definitely in the air up there on Saturday (misty rain, lower 40s at dawn, warmed to maybe 60 during the day).

Seen 3 bulls last Thursday in full velvet. Last night, saw one bull with full velvet and another was fully rubbed clean.  :dunno:

I hiked into an area on Saturday that had several old old rubs from years past and two very fresh rubs.  It smelled like a barn yard in there.  Elk droppings and tracks all over the place.   :tung:

I posted it somewhere on here a little while back, but my buddy here in washougal (very creditable source) was 50yds from a 5 or 6 pt. staring at him for a minute or so, and it was all bone, this has been atleast 2 weeks ago.
