Wood stove pipe thru tarp or canvas cover for wall tent???

How are you guys that have the covers on your tents doing the wood stove pipe through it?  Are you just cutting a hole in the tarp/canvas or are you rigging up a seal of some sort that is heat resistant for the pipe hole?  I'm taking the advice of many on here to throw a cover over my wall tent but wanted to know what it is you all do for the stove pipe.  Thanks

I think it is recommended to cut a hole about the size of the stovejack.

Cut a 2'x2' square with your pipe coming directly out of the middle of it.  Do not cut it so it is close.  Tarps are easy to sew so make sure you hem your edges.

Get a tent with a side vent.  If you already have the tent with the top hole, cut a hole in the tarp.

I cut a hole in the tarp about a foot larger in diameter than the stove jack. I prefer to not use a tarp (quieter in the wind, easier to set up), but I have had some bad experiences going that route. Like the time it rained HARD, then cleared up and froze solid. And it was time to break camp. By myself. I didn't have the time to build a big fire in the stove and wait for the tent to thaw out, so i chipped as much ice off as I could, then did my best to roll up a 12x17 tent that had to have weighed 140 lbs! There are conditions where a tarp can save a ton of work!

I cover mine with a tarp in case of hard rain or snow.  I just cut the hole big enough so the heat from the pipe won't melt it.

You could always buy the silver material and rubber boot for a stove jack cutout and then sew it into a tarp. I know some folks who have bought one from http://www.titaniumgoat.com/index.html. I know someone who had a stove jack sewn into the side of his tent too so this wouldn't be an issue anymore. Cost him about $75.

I have a number of sil-nylon Kifaru tipis that use this and it does the job.
