We used to live in 142 . Aways saw Elk around Kamiak Butte between Pullman and Palouse . East to the state line all private ground . But alot of the Farmers there would like ALL of the Elk killed as they raise hell with their crops.

I will second what slenk said. Check out the farm lands between Kamiak and Idaho boarder. All farm land but if you find the land owner it is pretty much a gurantee they will let you kill elk.

Hey kirkl, where is that late elk hunt listed in the regs?  I see a late deer hunt for AHE listed for Dec 9-31, but no elk hunt.  Just curious.

I'm going to try heading down that area too for the master hunter hunt before the new year hits.
Had a friend contact me where he's seen them, and I've hunted down there a bit too. I'll need some luck, them bulls move quite a bit, and may not be in an area where you can get at them.

I've hunted down there a few years in a row, then gave up because of the crowds. There will be quite a few master hunters down there too, just wait and see.

Well, just hope I get the chance....
Good Luck to you!

Elk are not easy to come by in these units.  Rouge herds here and there but nothing consistant.  I would focus between the towns of Palouse, Garfield and to the North/East of those two towns to the Idaho border.  You can spot their trails a mile away when they are in the area and there's snow on the ground.  I shot this spike over there this year while muzzleloading.  Went back 3 days later and shot the buck.  Not many people that I'm aware of will let you go after them on private lands though.  I would stop by the local watering hole after dark and speak to the locals.  Good luck.

Made it out today, but most areas had at least 2 feet of snow. Hence my post on snowshoes. If your going to hunt in that stuff, you'll need more than just snow pak's.....

Elkaholic,

Sorry I'm late replying back to you.  I've been vacationing in Mexico for a couple weeks now and just got home yesterday.

I shoot a 54 cal Thompsen Centerfire Thunderhawk.

I'm thinking about getting a new muzzleloader.  Any suggestions?
