Reloading Q: .451 but crushed casing?
« on: August 18, 2009, 08:11:11 PM »

I'm using .45 acp on a four-stage Dillon (square b model) and have reloaded about 1000 rounds without much of a hitch. I ran out of bullets, though, and bought some speer .451 185 gr gold dots--but with these, the casings are crushed 19 times out of 20.

Any suggestions on what may be going on?

Thanks in advance!

On pistol cases i bell case mouth enough to start bullet,i take bullet and see how it starts in hand, some bullets have taper so you don't have to bell as much.

What do you use to bell them? The machine I use is supposed to resize the casing on the first cycle.

I wonder if Speer bullets are less tapered than the previous ones I used (don't know what mfr--I bought them at a gun show).

If you have a 3 die set, it should be in there to bell the cases.  I bell all my .44 mag cases, before seating bullets.  Just works a lot easier.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
