Looked up the range on Google and there were a lot on negative comments on the place. I've been there myself and have found the grouchy old guy running the public range to be a deterrent from using the range as much as I'd like (this say a lot to me considering I used to shoot at public ranges in CA where they hate freedom in general). The other shooters there I've spoken too were very friendly though.

Price is also a factor for me. There is a separate fee for each "range" you use there, but i kow that is all include din your membership.

Safety is the primary concern of the range masters if you follow the rules and excise some common sense you wont have any problems with them.  They deal with some real yahoo's and people that lack a brain.  If you have had an issue with them its because you were in the wrong. :twocents:

I've never had an "issue" with one. I just think he's a grumpy old man who acts like your bothering him when you walk up to the window to pay or...God forbid ask a question. I am by no means a noob to shooting ranges and have taken a few safety courses over the last several years. I just think that if I'm spending money at a place of business employees shouldn't be rude or act put out by me being there.

There are a couple of range masters at the rifle range that are a pain but as a member you don’t have to interact with them.  They also seem to have a better attitude toward members than they do toward the general pop.  I don’t know why they treat the public shooter that way, but they do.

All the ranges are included in the membership, you do pay a fee for clay shooting but members get a discount.  Members also get a discount on ammo and reloading components.  It isn’t perfect but it’s the best place to shoot that I have found within reasonable driving distance.

I go up there frequently and am not a member. I usually throw a joke or two at the guys running the show. They seemed like nice folks to me.  :twocents:

There are several range masters on the rifle range.  Some of them are not super social, and all of them are militant on the enforcement of range rules (which can be a bit restrictive).  But if you follow the rules, all is good.  If you don't know the rules of any range when you walk on the grounds, it is best to ask in advance so there are no surprises.  I was on one range over on the Kitsap where a guy fired down range during a cease fire!!  That guy would have been banned forever from Kenmore, but was only given a warning at the other range I was at!

One thing to consider which makes Kenmore a bit different than other ranges is that it is basically in the middle of several neighborhoods and many of the neighbors would love nothing more than to have a reason to shut the range down.  Any reason.  Injuries, shooting too early, shooting too late, etc.  They get calls about automatic fire on the range all the time (and automatic fire never occurs...  just reported as such by ignorant/trouble making people.)

It is always shocking to me that people buy a house next to a gun range and then complain about the gun range.  that range has been there long before any of the houses.  It is like buying a house next to an airport and then complaining about all the dang planes flying around...

Membership fees get you free access (except for targets which are 50 cents each) to the rifle range as well as the archery courses and pistol range.  Shotgun range is still fee based, but you get discounts on shells and trap/5 stand rounds.

I have been a member for 3 years.  I have paid for the membership several times over in that time.  If I were the kind of person who shoots 2-5 times a year, then it would not be worth the money.  Given the amount I shoot, It has been a real money saver.  Everyone has their own cost case to consider.

The rules are pretty restrictive, but it is a very safe range in a heavily populated area.

In one 45 min stretch I saw one guy packed out on a back board because he left the jag in his rifle and it went kaboom when he pulled the trigger and another using a stud finder on his barrel to see if there was a bullet still in the pipe...NO JOKE.  Im glad they are the way they are.

It's things like this that make me wonder WTF is wrong with people. There should be a license required to breed.
