Elk movement question
« on: August 29, 2009, 06:34:19 PM »
Was out scouting today and found 2 really nice wallows. Both were in the same creek bottom about 3/4 of a mile apart from each other. It looked to me like the elk were working from the ridge tops down to the wallows then feeding back up the ridges.

My question is this; What is typical elk movement? As I said the area I hunt is a series of canyons or draws. Do elk typically bed up on ridges and move down hill to water in the mornings then work their way back up hill to bed in mid-day? Or do they water mid-day?

Thanks for the help.

they do just enough to make you think that you have them figured out and then they change everything they do and sit in the bushes laughing at you. this is my experience with elk behavior  :hello:
No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.
