?? Last minute preperations ??
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:16:29 AM »
What do you guys do to prepare yourself the last couple of days before the big hunt/clime :dunno:  I have been dieting and working out, I am deciding to rest or keep at it the last couple of days? Honestly I am concerned and nervous about the clime.  I am leaving Monday morning.  Do any of you take special vitamines, protein powder, resting, detox what do you do  :dunno:

I avoid drinking beer or other garbage and try to eat some decent meals.  No vitamins or energy stuff- just good food.  Most of the physical prep should be done a long time ago- there's no sense in an extra work out right before the hunt...it's too late at that point.  But good fuel and hydration should help quite a lot.

a very last minute thing I do (for example, the morning of), is guzzle a bottle of water or so first thing before leaving camp, to make sure I am well hydrated for the hike.

REST

It actually takes the body a week or more to regress. Alot of people make the mistake of thinking they are losing the progress gained before it actually happens, so they workout, when they should be resting. My boss who is an Ironman triathlete suggests tappering prior to the event/hike/climb etc. So a few weeks prior you can be at 100% (10 mile hike= 10 mile training) then start to tapper off and a week before the hike/climb you should be at no more then 40%. Then the last few days prior you should be resting.

Everyone has there own ideas and only you know your own body the best, go with what feels right

I agree...my sister just finished Iron Man Canada last weekend and she does exactly that.  If working out/cardio was part of the deal, it's too late to start now.  Lay off on the booze, don't drink too much coffee in the morning to avoid dehydration, drink plenty of water and make sure that you're eating enough carbs to go along with protein (ie. don't just eat sausage and beef jerky.  Have a bagel or a granola bar, too.)
