how many of you....
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:37:18 PM »
...re loaders have found two different loads that shoot the same out of your rifle with no scope adjustment. for example i have a 168 grTTSX load out of my 300 that shoots the same (within a 1/4 inch in elevation) as a 200 gr accubond with out adjusting the scope. i kinda did this by chance but i was sure happy with it. powder is RL 22. 78 gr for the 168 and 73.1 for the 200. any of you guys able to get loads to do this on purpose? like i said mine was kinda dumb luck while i was working up a load for the 200 gr bullet

It happens, I was trying to work on some 3006 loads and factory ammo in the same session last week, found most shot in the same area, except for the load my wife will use for moose this Oct.  The 180 gr partition's are shooting 3 in lower then the other lighter bullet weight loads.  My 7stw shoots the 139 gr Interlocks the same as 175 Partitions.

Not sure if this counts but my 180 ballistic tips and 180 accubonds have the same point of impact.

I think he's talking different bullet weights but maybe not???  :dunno:

I had the same experience with my 30-06.  Had some 150 grain Speer Grand Slams with, I wanna say 56 grains behind them ??? Cant remember now, but they shot dead on with some 180 grain Federals we loaded.  Couldn't believe it but they all were within a half inch.  Pleased me.

My .257 Ackley will do that with 115 gr. Ballistic Tips and 117 gr. Sierra Game Kings.  Only 2 grains diff. I admit, but two completely different bullets.  Same load, same everything, shoots 1 in. high at 100 yards in a ragged hole group.

It happens a lot less then it does.  The more common is that one load is very similar in accuracy across a few rifles.

I have found 2 loads for my .270 for 130's and 150's that are almost indistinguishable from one another.  Stumbled onto those by accident.   Powder is IMR 4350 if I recall.  Haven't loaded any for it in awhile.

I have taken a different road in that I load the different bullet weights to the same velocity say 2700 fps (for 30-06). I don't want to shoot past 200-250 yds anyway so I just changed the bullet for the game at hand. I used to have a 1964 Winchester Model 70 that I carried for 15 years that would put a magazine full of 150-165-180 grain bullets into a 2" circle at 100 yds all loaded to the 2700 fps velocity. That's the key: same velocity, same type of bullet configuration. I loaded all Remington  bullets. Maybe that gun was a bit of an oddity.

I am shooting 150 and 180s out of my Remington700 30-06 that Idabooner has loaded up to be the same.  At least out to 200 yards or so.

Just last week discovered that two loads were doing the same thing.  130 TTSX and 140 TSX.  They both shoot right into the same spot at 100 and 200 yards.  Both use H4831sc.  Slightly different charge weights.  Not so bit a deal I guess, but I have seen huge differences in point of impact with other small changes before...
