My son got himself a BIG, BAD dog yesterday!
« on: September 17, 2009, 12:56:12 PM »
Our son is in Alaska commercial fishing, and called me last night to give his weekly update.   The weather blew up yesterday morning, so they dropped the hook, launched the skiff and went hunting, and he got a WOLF!.  I'm proud and jealous all at the same time.  Sounds like it's a good one, he'll be home in 10 days, so I'll post the full story and pics then.

Nice job.  Any wolf down is a good one. Look forward to seeing the pics and hearing the story!

Dog story; He was hunting deer with a friend of mine, (who I used to crew with, and now owns his own boat and that's who my son was commercial fishing with the second half of this summer/fall).  They had split up, and my son heard a wolf howl, then another, and another and so on, up above him on the hill.  Then he heard one bark like a coyote does when it knows something isn't right.  He then started humping it double-time over the next ridge and through the next muskeg flat to try to heat them off.  Then his skipper started shooting, and the wolves started moving accross the hill, (judging by their barking/howling).  He cut up over another ridge and down into the next muskeg.  Then he got a glimpse of one, and then another one going accross the muskeg.  He sat down, got a "hasty sling" hold, and pulled for the next opening.  When he saw one come into the scope, he barked like we do when we are stopping a coyote.  He said it stopped, looked at him... he shot...dog down.  Said when he got to it, it was snarling and biting everything it could reach, so he shot it again...twice.  Said he didn't want it waking up when he had it on his shoulders packing it out.   He ended up not packing it all the way out, and just skinned it there as they said it was around a hundred pounds and had lice real bad.  He only took one picture as the battery on his camera ran out.  Still the only kid I know that has a wolf.  Makes me proud as a Dad, but I have to admit I'm pretty envious too.

Then a couple days later he got his first bear!  It's been a good year so far for him.

But why won't the pics load!!???

Got 'em!
