Front sight broken
« on: October 05, 2009, 07:07:20 AM »
Yesterday while hunting, I leaned my bighorn on a tree.  I thought it was firmly placed on there but somehow it slipped off feel on a rock and cracked half of the green truglo stick/rod.  Does anyone know if you can just replace that part of do you have to replace the whole sight itself?

I also broke my front sight this year.  :bash: I am paying the 20 bucks and getting a new set rather  than hassle with phone calls and the postal service.   It also gives me another excuse to go out and shoot again this year ;)

You can use the some fiberoptic material they use on bows. Find the material that is the largest in diameter. To install cut the the right length then use a match or lighter to cause the material to slightly melt and expand. Once that is done get some supper glue or something that dries clear to hold it a little better. The best part is it only cast about $10 and you get 4-5 different colors.

Well I contacted Tru-glow via email from their website asking how to replace or buy a replacement fiber optic rod.  Low and behold when I checked the mail on saturday there were 5 replacement rod in a package free of charge.   So I did end up ordering a new front sight from Knight, so I think I'll replace the broken stuff and keep it as a spare.

I went out on a limb and check into my durabright sights, and low-and-behold they were guaranteed for life. So I called and 20 secs later they sent me a new set no questions asked.  Then I went to the sporting goods store, purchased the multi-pack set of true-glow fiber optics and prestoe now I have a back up set ready to role.  :)
