called some dawgs today
« on: December 22, 2007, 05:14:34 PM »
just learning how to call dawgs. used to hunting private land in the basin so this is a new challenge for me. had them surrounding us today in mud flats. they were howling and barking from every direction. but i got impatient actually cold ( sitting in 10'' of snow) and walked up the timber line and got busted. lots of fun. any pointers for sealing the deal. i am using the primos ki-yi, seemed to work well but the dawgs werent just running in like i have seen happen in years past.   :'(

i guess i could try a more quiet call when they are getting close. not moving would help out tremendously also. my toes felt like they were going to fall off. so i had to move.

ya i am not a good caller my self. just trying to learn how. watching videos can only get you so far. jughead can call preatty good but he's not very good at hitting them. but he comes through hen it really counts. but you wont get any better if you dont try. all it takes is some effort with any kind of hunting or fishing.

Practice, practice, practice.....

You know your getting close when you see crows, hawks, then watch for the 'yotes, and cats come next. It's a challenge.

Sure hope to get out a few times this year....work and school kill me though.

sometimes it is hard to find time but eventually the work does pay off. i love this old saying and i apply it to everything i do. you cant catch any fish if your line isnt in the water.
