Yep, you're looking in the right area but the really big boys won't be in there until the snow drives them out of the mountains.  If you really want to increase your chances give Icicle Outfitters a call.  Those guys are really knowledgable  in that area....

Your gonne have to wait for the bigger bucks to come down lower. like bowhuntforever said...migration. Do some scouting the end of Oct. you might get a better look at some bucks.

Had that tag last year - no snow and still a good hunt.  Saw well over 100 buck in November - they'll show up for you, not to worry.

Potato, Mud, etc.  You're in the right area...

Good tag, when it snows, they will come.  Even without, the bucks will move down looking for does.  Might have to get away from the roads a little to find the big boys, which can be hard to do in that unit.  Roads everywhere, look for the steep and deep.  I.e. head of Potato.

Your time isnt wasted.  Learn the roads and the lay of the land now, and use it to your advantage later!

On a semi side note I was up the Swakane this morning and it was a ghost town.  One other rig no animals or fresh sign.  I take that back I followed some bobcat tracks for a few humdred feet...

patience bru

It's a really fun hunt.  A buddy of mine had it 2 years ago and I went with.  It was the most fun hunt I have ever been on and I didn't even have a tag.  We also did not have any snow that year and we saw between 10 and 25 4pts everyday.

By the way you are looking in the right spots.  Just hope for snow and the hunt should go from really good to excellent.

Drew the tag in 04. No worries. They will be down in Nov.

I passed up 80 bucks in 3 days to take my 4x5 not far from Cougar lake. Awesome area that time of year. Don't get too trigger happy if you want a hog, because they are there !!!!!!!
