Iceman's Swampthing
« on: September 25, 2009, 06:25:39 PM »
I decided since I have so much freetime on my hands to improve upon my Duckmobile. I have a 45+ year old Aluminum Sears rowboat, not quite 12' long. My father-in-laws old boat he had since (nearly) the beginning of time. I had painted this great old boat a few years ago for swamp prowling in....but did not set it up with a blind. This year I decided to rig it up a bit better so I can sit my two kids in it and blast a few ducks in style.

The boat had a few "Fish-On" style rod holders, but I fitted it with a few more to total 8 installed holders. These rod holders would be the basis of my mounting system for my blind. I used my electrical conduit bender to bend 1/2" EMT (conduit) so that I could span the distance exactly between all the rod holders. Five U-shaped pieces of conduit, I then wrapped with camo Duck tape. Then I strung camo-netting blind material across each conduit blind support. I cut two doors thru the material, so that I can open two handy spots for gathering dekes...etc....  I place camo bungy cord at the top of each opening so that I could secure it in place, then quickly remove/open the doors.... I engineered a camo motor hood to conceal the entire motor area....

One side of the blind is higher to conceal our profile, the other side will face our decoys.

I tied 6742 knots of duckweed/camo material all over the blind.

I finished the blind with a trip to Michael's for some fake Cat-tails, also painted a dove decoy black to look like a red winged black bird...

The blind "easily" pops out of the rod holders to lay down in the boat for transit. Next time someone remind me to install the rod holders to the conduit....not vice-a-versa...  :bash:

I also repainted  the entire boat in my own custom swamp motif'....

Bring on the ducks.  :hunt2: :hunt2: :hunt2:

Shoot-em-dead, no kidding....I avoid the big water for sure, especially after loading in all the dekes and motor and gear, plus another shooter or two.......not much boat left....need to upgrade...

I am really looking forward to shooting from this set up... Really fun summer project. Relaxing...

Super cool Iceman.  8) Does it come with a mousetrap?  :P
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
