Olympic GMU 621 Muzzleloader ELK
« on: September 28, 2009, 07:57:32 PM »
I have a question for any of you that have hunted the unit before.

My cousin drew the tag and has done NO scouting (Ok he did just start at WSU and has been busy)!  So I have taken it upon myself to try and look up as much information as I can.  From what I have read/heard from WDFW Biologists and Game Management Plan,  There are not a lot of elk in the unit and to concentrate efforts in the Dosewallips, Duckabush and Hamma Hamma Drainages.

I have been using Google Earth in conjunction with GoHunt and trying to figure out a starting point for him.  The biologist has mentioned the HammaHamma Swamps and the 2530 Rd. near Trap Pass.

I will not even be going on this hunt, but can't stand to see it wasted, if you would let me know if you have any information, and trust me I understand if you don't want to give anything up.  He should have put in the time.

Its no secret the elk hang out on private land on the Dose, you probably won't get permission but its a starting point. There is public land around it.

Uncle went up scouting today and zip, nadda, nothing.  Drove around on Mt. Jupiter Rd. and Love Rd. between duckabush and dosewallips and nothing.  No bugling, no fresh tracks or rubs.

Going back tomorrow to look up on the 2530 rd. up high.  At this rate he is going to be scouting vereyday until season starts.
