Had a great day on the water at Lake Roosevelt on Saturday. Got out and was fishing at about 0615. Almost immediately was into fish. My buddy landed 2 on topwater and I lost 2 plus had an enormous strike while working topwater behind the boat. Basically, I was dragging a Sammy behind while my buddy was moving us further into the slough, twitching the rod tip just enough to make it walk. We moved out of the slough, and I picked up my first fish of the day on a crankbait. We decided to move back into the slough and right off the mouth, I landed my best smallie to date on a lipless crankbait.

Continued with the topwater since it was early with no success. That's when my bud switched to dropshotting. He had never caught anything doing it and was determined. Second cast, he lands what would be big fish of the day. Talk about pumped.

After that, I knew I needed to try it. So I borrowed some gear and rigged up. First cast I get a bite but miss it, not knowing you need to be patient with this technique. Few casts later, I feel a tap. I reel down and feel the weight of the fish and sweep my rod to set the hook. After a short fight I land my first dropshot fish. Not a giant, but I was stoked landing a fish being new to this method. This fish was about the average size for the day.

Pretty much this what we used for the rest of the day. We probably caught about 35-40 fish between us. To bad we didn't try this last week during the tournament. We might have had a chance.

One weird thing that happened was I caught a fish that had one of our worms already in its mouth. We hadn't used these worms in that particular spot, but we were a couple hundred yards from where we had, 6 hours earlier. What are the chances of that happening?
