How many inches of bone do you have?
« on: September 27, 2009, 09:16:37 PM »
:chuckle: :chuckle: I'm being serious here (well kinda) I'm curious what some of the deer hunters have done throughout thier hunting careers. Muleys, blackys and whitetails, whats your total in inches?  How many bucks in that total?

I started hunting in 1986, no deer success 1986-1989.  In 1990 I killed my first deer, a mule deer doe.  From 1991 to 2006, I tagged a buck every year except 1992 (shot a doe) and 2001 (didn't hunt).  Eleven mule deer (not counting eyeguards, 1x2, 2x3, 3x3, 6# 4x4, 4x5, 5x6) 3 whitetails (counting eyeguards, 1x3, 4x5, 5x6).

I did a SWAG estimate for the little guys (never taped), came up with 1,584 total.  Average = 113, average mule deer = 123, average whitetail = 78.  Excluding the yearlings, average adult mule deer = 133, average adult whitetail = 108.  Highest mule deer gross score is 167, nets 163.  Highest whitetail grosses 130, net 125.

No monsters, lots of great times, memories and meat.  1991-2000, in addition to the deer mentioned above, I probably shot 14-18 does for more meat, mostly alfalfa field whitetails.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

After 14 years of hunting i would say 500 + range, 11 deer in 14 years all mulies only one spike and two 3 points rest are all fours. although i have no idea how many inches of bone they make up i would be just guessing.
You will never kill a big one if you spend all your time draging out little ones

Well, for all you guys who claim it is cold out,,, :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have no earthly clue how many inches of bone I have taken since my first in about 1985.   :yike: :yike:  :chuckle:

in 24 years, I have probably taken close to 50 deer hunting in 3 states a year for a lot of that time.

Run, I agree, Rasbo would be having a field day with this one, I am trying to be nice, for once, I think I am worn out from the day at work.   :bdid: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

He's pretty much a permanent fixture around here. I wonder if he's lost the rest of his mind without getting his Hunt-Wa fix every day.

I've killed at least one buck and sometimes more in other states every year for the last 27 years.  They average probably about 150 or so for the last 20 of those.  THrow in afew bull elk and a few moose and several thousand sheds, too much to count, though I am sure I have measured almost every sincgle one of them.

I came up with 940 inches of deer antler (ballpark figure), not counting sheds.  Had 9 years "off" from hunting when I was in the regular Army, overseas, etc...
