At full Draw 45yds away while he was getting his picture taken!
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:12:20 PM »
I walked into my spot only to find a Bull standing there eating some alfalfa I had put out hours earlier! I dropped to a knee in the trail and came to full draw as he was having his photo shoot! I have a spike or cow only tag. At first glance I thought he was a Spike, then realized he had 2 pts on one side. Could not verify the other side. Looked like a fork and horn that I wanted to pull the trigger on but could not. Only when i pulled the card later did i realize that I made the right decision not to shoot.

its always nice to know you can still stalk an animal.  I love the rush I get on a perfect stalk!

Made the right call, looked legal in the first pic, but better safe than sorry!

way to be patient and really look over your animal, can be very tough to do in the heat of the moment when it looks close like that! good job!

Patients and good ethics is what paid off for you in making the right choice. Tough brake but the right call. Making sure you are 100% positive in what you are shooting at is a must. No Bull but Nice job

correct me if im wrong, but is it illegal to bait elk with alfalfa? not sure. For hunting and not photography? and or a salt lick? :dunno:

letmehunt,
I firmly believe that it is legal in WA to hunt over bait for deer and elk.  I have read and reread the regs many times and I can not find anything in there that addresses bait for deer and elk.  As such, I believe it is legal.
If anyone has any different info / thoughts, I would be happy to hear.
Just my  :twocents:
