Well, I got out on Tuesday trying to do Team Hight Desert proud. Hunted about 1.5 miles away from the truck overlooking a CRP bowl. Started out with a couple of howls with the red desert, and dogs lit up all around me. Several to the South, and a bunch more upwind of me to the East. I called back and forth trying to get the Southern dogs to come in, but they didn't want to cross the 600 yds. of open field in winter wheat. I switched over to the Foxpro with a fawn distress, and up popped a nice big dog from the Eastern group sitting @ 288 yds. and looking at my coyote decoy. I had my longer range gun along, and it's on at 300, so I held about an inch lower on his chest than I wanted. At the BANG from the 87 grn Nosler balistic tip from my quarter bore, he cartwheeled, and then flopped 3 times, and done.
Ever try to find a dead coyote with no snow on the ground about 300 yds out into a waist high CRP field? I spent close to an hour looking for that thing, and all I got for my efforts was angry. I really really wanted to post a picture for the team, but failed. SORRY MAN!
Going out again on Sunday. Will come through!

I know what you mean, that tall wheat grass is really hard to find dead coyotes in.  I lost a couple myself this year.  There hard enough to see sometimes when they're just standing still, but when they're laying down dead it can be like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Went out this morning, foggy and raining. Finally cleared up enough to take a hike. 1st set I called one in, it came in hard until about 175 yards and then must of winded me as it turned and hightailed it out without a shot. On the 3rd set got a coyote to respond to the call so I switched to some female vocals. He put on the afterburners and came in on a string. Finally got him to stop at 53 yrds. Didn't realize he was so big until I got up to him. This guy was so fat he had a pig face. Biggest one for me this year and also the best furred one. My scale I had only went to 30 lbs so I decided to pack him out since the pickup was less than 1/2 mile. After a few rest stops I made it.  :chuckle: Got home and weighed him and then I had to skin him out all the way as the hide wouldn't pull off. I guess it takes a .204 to put the big dogs down  :chuckle:

Dandy...

BTW, those "other" two dogs in that pic look a wee bit heavy as well.    :chuckle: :chuckle:

Nice dog big10! Thank God you were able to call he in under 100 yds, I'm not sure the 204 would've been able to do the job on such a big yote.  That's right you have a 20 round clip with tracers. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Had a really bad shooting exhibition last week so I went to Disneyland with the kids and grand daughter for four days.  Hopefully I can get out in the next day or two and redeem myself.

Well I did add an extra 32 grains he wasn't packing before, so I guess the real weight would be since 32 gr = 0.004571 lb and 39-.004571 = 38.995429 lbs   :chuckle:
His stomach was actually distended way past his ribs, I'm thinking he had just gorged on something earlier, but I'm not man enough to see what is in it. :puke: Anyway he sure hadn't missed any meals this winter
