I have appreciated a bit of a break but I'm starting to get the itch again.  I've only shot a coyote or two a month and today I "gave" one to Swag.  I'm thinking we should start hunting a few of em and posting a few just to keep in good practice.  Stay tuned....  :)

Man, for a guy whose is so generous, you sure spent allot of time staring at the coyote.  But I do agree let's get to it, there is no time like the present.  :mgun:

You are such a little lurker  :chuckle:  And yes, that was a gift.  Hopefully we can get some guys to start lining a few up, going out every few weeks to keep "sharp".

Yep, give me a call.  I figure if we post a few pics maybe we can get some of the SBA boys out of hibernation.

Well I never did stop hunting them, I just quit walking out and taking pics.  Haven't seen one in about a week, but I think that will change when this moon gets smaller.

Wiseoldyote and I tried a few sets down here last sat night & sunday.  Saw about 5 at night, but once they were IDd as yotes they were gone.

4 stands this morning, dogs called every stand.....I wasn't shooting, handed off my AR to my brother and had a buddy.  I was hand calling with some pup distress.

First stand hard charger from half a mile out, stopped at 500 yards and went down wind.....busted

Second stand, buddy saw flashes thru the sage of at least one adult and a pup, maybe 70 yards, got down wind....busted

Third stand, 10 seconds into calling a dog comes out of the draw at 100 yards and stops.  1 down.

Fourth stand, 10 seconds into calling one shooter had a bedded yote stand up 60 yards from him, he shoots, I keep calling.  Had some other dogs barking quite a ways out, mixed up some more pup distress with a challenge bark or two.....never came.  Found blood on first dog but never retrieved.

Sounds like a good day.   8)

I didn't hunt today, but I was out on the tractor for about 10 hrs.  I saw one 'yote cross my path at about 8:00AM, I kept going until I saw him standing halfway up a hill, shut off the tractor and grabbed the rifle.  Of course he heard that and took off running.  I whooped at him, and he didn't even pause, but I knew he was gonna stop at the top of the hill.  Sure enough, he did, perfect profile shot propped up at a 45, 315yds out......and I miss!

Saw two more at about 3:00pm, but they didn't give me a chance.   :'(

I'm going out in the AM for a few sets........

We need a dedicated, tacked "Off Season" yote thread.....for the die hards  ;)

I just killed 5 a couple days ago and two a week ago. A rancher was having a problem with a few so I took care of the problem. I won't be doing much through the summer months though, I'm just way too busy around the ranch with getting new roofs and siding done and now a new deck. Today I just set up new R/R ties for target supports and building new steel swinger dingers at 200 and 300 yards.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.
That's how I roll...

Sweet, I want to do that in this canyon here at the ranch (out to 1K), but I don't know how to weld.   :chuckle:

Good to hear you're getting some time to whack dogs!

I really needed the break away from work and projects around here. It was good to get out for a couple of hours during some down time waiting on other stuff to happen. Today will be spent installing two new doors in the pool house, servicing my tractor, tilling the garden and taking down an old car port, then I'll put about 3 hours on the tractor mowing the pasture. Should be a pretty simple day.................for once.

Well, as usual, I had too much crap going on around the house to get out today, maybe on my next day off.  I did have an interesting encounter with a badger though  :chuckle:

Anyone else thinking that 2011 coyote madness is less than a month away?

I assume there will be one?
