Question...
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:49:47 PM »
What kind of terrain does a Blacktail buck typically like to make their rub line?

Deep draws?
High on the ridge line?
Middle of the hill side?
Small flats on a large hill side?

My short answer would be "Yes".

I've seen blacktail rubs in all of those. I don't claim to be an expert, but I haven't found any evidence that they make a "line" the way a whitetail might. In fact, although blacktail may have certain habits, I don't know of any way to "pattern" them like you would a whitetail. I do know that when I find blacktail rubs it is normally in the thick stuff.

 :yeah:

More of a perimeter than a line.  I'll ad that although they'll rub just about anything, I've seen more rubs in a grove of Alders than Evergreens.

I found a good area this weekend.  THere are many trails that are horizonal on the hill side.  I really do NOT want to go into the bottom of that crap hole looking for rubs.

While hiking around I was thinking it would be a great idea if I could pattern a typical blacktail.  BTW, I SUCK at killing blacktail.   I just kill the little fellas no big pig's.

I am hoping to start learning more this seasons rut.

Thanks for the responses.
