4-4 Mt. Baker Mountain Goat Tag filled 10/17/09

Hey Everyone! First, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this journey. Thank you for your moral support and encouragement. This Mountain Goat hunt was by far the hardest hunt I have ever made. What I mean is, the vertical terrain the freezing temps and the driving rain thunder and lighting ext. Yesterday was the wettest day I can remember ever. My rain gear worked but became very heavy (Rivers West HP2) the extra weight sucked. We hiked about two miles up into an area that we hadn't been into before. The trail was more like a creek on the way in and looked like a river by the time we started back for the truck. At about 10:30 AM I spotted a white shape at the top of the ridge about 250 yards, wiped the rain from my face and looked through my bino's. I dropped to the ground and opened the bi-pod and within about two seconds decided this was a nice Billy. The Billy was walking right to me so I settled in and waited. At about 105 yards he gave me a nice broadside shot. He drop to the ground and then rolled about 60 yards down hill to a nice flat spot in a little saddle. Everything happened so fast we couldn't get video. I'm very happy with the way this all turned out! We had our meat packs with and we decided to travel light so we managed to pack everything out in one trip! The goat looked to be about 250 lbs and the horns measure about 9 3/4 + or -. I know this isn't a record Goat, but I'm very happy with it! One more note, If you are ever so luck to draw a special tag like this, look into how many tribal tags were issued for your area and remember raffle tags and Governors tag holders can hunt your unit also. In my case, seven other tag holders could have hunted the same area. Thanks again and good hunting to all!

Way to go Kevin! I knew it was just a matter of time before you would notch your tag. What a beautiful speciman as well, a true trophy! Sorry I could not have been there to video the memory for you, but I dont think youll ever forget the hunt anyways. Maybe well be back up there next year!

Maybe not - looks 47-48 to me - that's nothing to sneeze at! VERY NICE goat!

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when. No habitat = no game.
